About Metal College Aalborg

Metal College Aalborg is one of Denmark’s largest technical colleges within the metal industry with more than 2,500 Blacksmiths, Industrial Technicians, Technical Designers, Welders, CNC Operators, NDT Technicians etc. being trained by our dedicated teaching staff every year. Despite the name, our education programmes also include other production and development occupations specialising in other materials.

Metal College Aalborg offers a wide range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) programmes within the field of Youth Education, leading to nationally approved qualifications & specialisations, which are recognised internationally as well. In addition to this, we deliver a large and versatile selection of continuous and in-service training for employees in the metal industry based on a very flexible and market demand driven approach.

At Metal College Aalborg, we currently employ 30 vocational teachers and have at our disposal a top modern school built in 2000 - situated on the eastern outskirts of the city. Our training workshops and Open Learning Centres are fitted with new high tech equipment for welding and machining like CNC-operated turning, milling and cutting machines to resemble the realities of the industry, and to create an environment, which is conducive to the learning processes of our young students and adult course participants.

A part of Tech College Aalborg
Metal College Aalborg is a part of Tech College Aalborg – previously known as Aalborg Technical College. Founded more than 200 years ago, Tech College Aalborg is one of the largest VET institutions in Denmark. In our new organisational set-up, Tech College Aalborg provides overall management and administration, and delivers cross-cutting service functions to the group of trade related, professional colleges like Metal College Aalborg.

The global challenge
Danish VET colleges have a long tradition of being engaged in international cooperation projects. The idea is to open the minds of both teachers, course participants and students to the world, and to ensure that we equip our graduates with the international competencies which are needed in the globalised labour market.

As an example, Metal College Aalborg is cooperating with international recruitment agencies to help attract foreign manpower to the Danish metal industry. In 2007 the college provided in-service training (mainly welding certification) for 350 metal workers – primarily from Poland and Lithuania – to ensure that they match the competence level in Denmark.

A Danish support scheme, ‘Work Placement Abroad’ (in Danish “PIU”), makes it possible for Danish VET students to do all – or part of – the company based training included in their chosen VET Programme abroad. Our International Coordinator at Metal College Aalborg is currently promoting the use of this unique opportunity further among our students, and he is continuously working to engage the college in other types of international cooperation projects.
